“Resonance of Worship” published in Walter H. Rubsamen Music Library Collection on eScholarship (UCLA)

I’m very happy to share that my article “Resonance of Worship” has been officially published for public display in the Walter H. Rubsamen Music Library Collection on eScholarship (UCLA). I am deeply grateful to my mentor Dr. Paul Ellison , whose guidance and support were essential in shaping this research.

This study explores the religious and spiritual dimensions of William Byrd’s music, showing how his Catholic faith informed both his sacred and secular works during a time of intense religious conflict in England. Through an analysis of Mass for Four Voices and the madrigal Though Amaryllis Dance in Green, the article reveals a unified compositional voice grounded in spiritual conviction, where imitative polyphony, text painting, and modal writing blur the boundary between devotion and artistry and suggest encoded religious meaning in Byrd’s secular music.
